Will couldn't believe I would take a picture of us grocery shopping-notice the luggage in the cart, we went straight to the store
40 SF worth of chocolate folks! We got lots of strange looks in the store.
In Scotland at the top of Arthur's Seat.
Travel is going really well so far....praise the Lord! Our biggest problem is not waking up early enough to see all the sights. But hey, we are on vacation right?
We definitely loved Scotland and wish we had more time to see the Highlands but that will have to wait. We left Edinburgh early thursday morning with the intention of catching a London city bus tour. We arrived in London at 1 and our flight took off at 8. We finally found the Big Bus City Tour outside our train station....it would have been perfect because we had a long time before our flight and the city tour took 3 hours! Well, the bus took over an hour to come to that particular stop. We got to visit with the salesman for awhile, but our time was dwindling so we scraped that plan and went to the British library across the street. The library museum had the Gutengurg Bible, Magna Carter, scroll fragments from John, they had original copies of the music Balero, Midsummer's Night Dream, The Wedding March, and original books like Alice in Wonderland, Beowolf, and stuff my Shakespeare. It was a pretty impressive collection and that was the one museum I didn't see when I went to London with my grandfather....so I was glad we were able to so something. We had time to sit in the cafe afterwards and plan our trip to Geneva too.
We made it to Heathrow with no problems, but I was worried because there are strikes going on in the passport area. Those only affected arriving flights and not departing, so we were fine!
Finding our hotel in Geneva was a little tricky, but we had some really nice French guys help us figure out that our hotel was within walking distance and taking the bus would be too much trouble. The receptionist left our key taped to the front door and we were good to go! It was close to midnight before we had dinner, so our choices were few...but Will found some middle east food and had that. All of our grand plans to see Geneva went out the window when we woke up at 11! I think our jet lag finally caught up with us....fortunately, the big attractions in Geneva are seeing a clock made of flowers, the lake, a park, and the old town. Yes, we could have toured the United Nations building, but we just didn't have time. This was also our first Rick Steves-less town to tour. I was a little scared, but we managed. Rick leaves out Geneva from his guide book because he doesn't recommend going there....now we know why! Geneva is very industrial, lots of shopping and I think they make all the watches here....or at least sell them all here!
5 hrs later...
Ok...more on that later, but we made it to Gimmelwald! We have stayed in the same place for the last three years so we know the owners...well, they at least recognize us. Before arriving, we stopped by the grocery store and bought 40 franks worth of chocolate!!!!!!! We had trouble bringing it home last year, so not this time. The question....will it survive Dubai?
Time to plan so hikes! Pray my new hiking boots work well....I didn't get a chance to break them in yet. I wore my other ones out!
